By expanding its facilities in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Farmer’s Best is now able to provide overall capacity to grow these products throughout the entire year. In fact, 74 acres were introduced in 2016 as part of the company’s growing efforts. This year, Farmer’s Best is increasing its San Luis Potosí production to approximately 500 acres with space to grow more Roma tomatoes, cucumbers and green bell peppers. Net houses will cover 72 percent of this new expansion while the remaining land will be open fields.
“We are very excited about our expansion in San Luis Potosí,” said Leonardo Tarriba, Farmer’s Best general manager. “It allows us to now provide the same fresh, quality produce that we grow in Sinaloa and Sonora, year-round.”
In addition to increasing its field sizes and adding year-round products, Farmer’s Best has also updated its technology. A state-of-the-art bell pepper sorting machine is now in use and has increased sorting efficiency by 28 percent. This improvement ensures that an even better, quality product is being carefully packaged in the well-known Farmer’s Best blue boxes.
“We’re dedicated to being a reliable and consistent supplier to our customers,” said Tarriba. “This land expansion will allow us to continue doing so for a greater number of people throughout North America.”
Ideal growing conditions in Farmer’s Best’s three main farming areas in Mexico (including Hermosillo, La Cruz de Elota and San Luis Potosí) allow the company to provide a stable supply of produce. Roma tomatoes, cucumbers and green bell peppers, along with other seasonal produce, are all picked at the best time to preserve their freshness and quality.
